If you ever find yourself unhappy with your photos, don't just accept the package; take time to express your concerns with your photographer. It's important that they know exactly what you are looking for or your 'vision' for the photo shoot. The more of your ideas that you express the easier it is for them to make you happy. That is, if you can talk with your photographer, and they aren't a person that is just put in place to push a button. Let me explain.
I got a frantic phone call from a person that had just had their photos done at a department store. They were terribly unhappy and they needed someone to retake them stat! I was happy to drop what I was doing and meet this lovely family for a quick shoot outdoors. I didn't have time for a consultation (we had only talked 30 minutes earlier) but I asked them what they didn't like about the first shoot with the department store studio and that gave me a starting point.
Within 45 minutes I had a smiling family happily going on their way and it was their feedback that made all the difference. Even without a consult we were able to have an understanding and got them some family photos that really expressed their personality. What a pleasure they were to work with and what a happy memory for them. I posted the proofs that night and received an email from them the next morning.
Here was their feedback:
Thank you very much for the fast posting of the proofs. We truly love what we have seen so far... They turned out so good. Much more along the lines that we were hoping for. You did great.
